SMU Mustangs Football Bowl History
The SMU Mustangs have appeared in 13 bowl games in the program's history dating back to the 1924 Dixie Classic with 4 bowl games in 5 years from 1980-1984. The Mustangs' 2009 appearance in the Hawaii Bowl under coach June Jones marked the program's first bowl game since the 1984 Aloha Bowl and their first bowl game since the Death Penalty ruling in 1987. SMU has appeared in the Cotton Bowl more than any other bowl game with the most recent of their 4 Cotton Bowl appearances coming in 1982 when they defeated Pittsburgh 7-3.
