Akron Zips Football Bowl History

While the Akron Zips were not a part of the Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) until 1987, they quickly joined the Mid-American Conference and formed rivalries with other Ohio schools including Kent State, Bowling Green and the Ohio Bobcats. Akron’s first bowl appearance was the 2005 Motor City Bowl where they fell to Memphis 38-31 in Detroit, Michigan, and the program’s first bowl game win came in the 2015 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, where they defeated Utah State 23-21.
